Simmons BackCare

Simmons designed the BackCare® mattress to help people achieve proper spinal alignment while they rest. Its patented 5-zoned sleep supports the curves of the human anatomy to improve the comfort, restfulness and overall well-being of those seeking support for aching backs. It's a design that may very well make traditional open-coil bedding obsolete.

One of the barriers to achieving a quality night's sleep is improper back support. Sleeping with your spine properly aligned (your spine should be in the same position when lying down as when standing) helps you reduce stress and maintain rejuvenating sleep. At Simmons, we are obsessed with applying science to improve the quality of your sleep. That's why we created Simmons® BackCare®. Simmons BackCare has a unique product design and construction to help keep your spine in its natural alignment throughout the sleeping hours. That helps reduce stress, while helping maintain the recuperative value and quality of your sleep.
Simmons BackCare is made with the Five Zones™ sleep system quilting. The quilt stitch pattern on top of the mattress is tighter above the support zones, making the quilt firmer in those areas. Tighter quilting in the support zones provides lumbar and thigh support. A more open stitch pattern above the comfort zones allows for a plusher feel and added "give" in those zones. Looser quilting in comfort zones cushions the upper back, hips and thighs.

The sleep surface of the Simmons BackCare Ultimate mattress, a sculpted anatomic foam cushion, was originally developed by the healthcare industry to reduce and balance surface pressure and help spinal alignment. The technology was developed through extensive medical and research and consultation. Extracted foam in the comfort zones cushions the upper back, hips and thighs, reduces pressure. Fully dense foam in the support zones cradles the lumbar region and thighs.

BackCare mattresses use a patented Five Zones™ coil-system to create a mattress that is flexible and resilient throughout its entire surface. Lighter-gauge helical wires in comfort zones cushions the upper back, hips and lower legs. The helical wires in the lumber and upper thigh regions are made with thicker gauge helical wires for added support.

The Power Firm® foundation is designed to complement the Simmons BackCare mattress and features the Five Zones™ support to provide you with a complete anatomic sleep system. PowerFlex® steel torsion bar elements conform in the comfort zones, while formed steel bars strengthen the support zones to make a Five Zones™ foundation.
"The concept behind the BackCare mattress has been carefully thought out," says Dr. Menkowitz. "It's not just a few springs and foam, but it's been designed to really help keep your back in the proper alignment throughout the night." Whether you currently suffer from back pains or are just conscious taking care of your back, Simmons BackCare product line offers Better Sleep Through Science™.

You buy shoes that properly support your feet; buy bedding that properly supports your back. Once upon a time, sneakers were made flat. Now they are made to mold to your arch.

Traditional mattresses put most back support in the middle of the mattress using a combination of springs and foam. Today, the new direction in mattresses, with Simmons Company leading the way with the new line of BackCare®, is to provide two zones of extra support to the right and left of the center of the mattress. One supports the lumbar region and the other supports the upper thighs. In this way, the BackCare mattress conforms where it needs to--at the center of the mattress, under the hips--while providing extra lift and support where it is needed, under the hollow of the back and under the thighs.

"We used to think that the harder the sleeping surface, the better, but that's not necessarily true," says Dr. Thomas Krouscop, professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston.

"In research, we've found that if people maintain proper spinal alignment when they're sleeping, they'll be more comfortable. They won't have to move as much, the muscles are able to fully relax, and they'll have a better night's sleep," says Dr. Thomas Krouscop.

Simmons® BackCare® features a patented sleep system with five areas of comfort and support in each key component. With extra support under the lower back and thighs, your muscles stay relaxed, so there are fewer burdens on your spine.
